4-H is a youth development program for students all the way up to 18 years of age.  There are many special opportunities for teen’s to become involved in 4-H projects and activities.  4-H offers a variety of opportunities for teens to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations needed for adult life.

They have the chance to participate in activities specifically geared toward their interests. Whether it’s serving as a mentor for younger youth at 4-H camp, showing livestock at the county fair, conducting citizenship projects, shooting sports club, communication events, or any of our other clubs there is something for everyone!

If teens are wanting to be involved with students of their own age then our teen leadership club would be a great way to become involved.  Club meetings with your peers where you can make decisions and learn about being a leader in your local community!

Beyond the county level, there are many district and state opportunities for teens to become involved in camps, committees and councils/boards.

Teen Conference

Kentucky 4-H believes that all youth should have opportunities for positive youth development in our four guiding concepts:  mastery, belonging, independence, and generosity. 4-H members work to master leadership and citizenship skills, this event inspires teens to continue their 4-H involvement through belonging to a group of like-minded peers and mentors.  During this four-day conference, teens develop valuable life skills, leadership competencies, and communication abilities.  Delegates have an opportunity to practice independence while staying on the University of Kentucky campus living in dorms, visiting "The 90" and other academic and student life buildings that allow them to see how a real college student lives.  Delegates are encouraged to explore their future education and degree plans by exploring all the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment can offer. A service learning opportunity is provided for youth to practice generosity. Featured events include Fashion Revue, the Culinary Challenge, State 4-H Officer elections, and selection of our future Teen Board members.

Teen Summit

Kentucky 4-H believes that all youth should have opportunities for positive youth development in our four guiding concepts:  mastery, belonging, independence, and generosity. Started in 2005, the Kentucky 4-H Summit is held annually at the Kentucky 4-H Educational Center in Jabez, KY. This program is for middle school aged youth who are currently enrolled in 6th, 7th, or 8th grades.  This program is designed to develop leadership, citizenship, and communication skills.  We hope that through participation, 4-H members will make new friends by belonging to a group, master new skills by participation in dynamic workshops, exert independence in a group-living situation and practice generosity through a service learning experience.  All delegates will take one leadership workshop taught by members of the Kentucky 4-H State Teen Council.  Delegates choose an additional 3 workshops and 2 funshops. The three days, two night conference ends with a motivational program sponsored by one of our state teen program boards/councils. The Kentucky 4-H State Teen Council will be hosting the "Hit the Trail" 4-H 4K to empower 4-H'ers to practice healthy living. Contact your 4-H Agent for more information.
